... HARBOUR

These shots are from the top of the 'White Cliffs of Dover' over-looking the harbour.

I took the photo's because of the striking contrast between the stormy clouds and the serene calmness of the sea; two of my favourite things to view when I have a camera in my hand.

That's a view I know well from my youth. Wonderful photos :o)

That certainly is not a view from my youth, but it is lovely, I love the storm clouds over the water,

The clouds are so beautiful! Very well done!

Ruth ~ I could pass hours sitting up there just gazing out across the sea.

Jean ~ The clouds are very dramatic aren't they.

Thanks for the answers, they always intrigue me!

KML ~ Glad you think so, thx for your comments.

Like you, I too could sit for hours and gaze at such a lovely view. I often do so when out on the beach with Wilma! Yesterday I was reading the names on the boats, fascinating!

Nice shots. It gives me the sense of calmness, but a little nippy. Now I know what "White Cliffs of Dover" look like.

Great cloud formation Ali - sky is so important in a photo isn't it. It's been ages since I saw those cliffs. I used to drive to the continent a lot because you see so much more but I've given in to airlines now.

Hope you're feeling better. I was by this morning and was worried when I didn't see your post.

Yep...my youth comes to mind too. French Exchange, 1982. I cried my eyes out!

Beautiful sight though, and lovely pics.

I'll email soon Ali...it's still all on...and I can't wait! xxx

The photos have turned out really well. The sky looks fantastic. I've sailed out of there more than a few times over the years.

PS I'll be sorting out the forwarding of your blog award over the next day. I'm finding it very difficult to get online for any length of time at the moment because of work load.

Beautiful, Ali,

It's always great to see a camera pointed in the OTHER direction, away from a great landmark.

That's a magic image.

Cheers

David

Denise ~ Do you wonder how some people come up with the names for their boats?

AVC ~ I do like a good cloudscape.

WFW ~ Driving does allow you to see more, but hectic lifestyles don't always allow it do they?

Am still off work, should get blood test results on Friday. x

Ali said...

Laney ~ It's a great sight, I'll take you up there to see for yourself next month if you like.

Look forward to the email, if it's easier, phone me. I can't wait either!!

Hugs x

Mike ~ Thanks honey, this type of photo is a make or break depending on the sky. I was lucky to catch this gorgeous view.

No rush Mike, with the award thingy, whenever you have time. x

David ~ I agree, it is so easy to photograph the obvious isn't it. The second image, although difficult to see unless you click on it, has the mast and radar on the top of the hill from the Coastguard station. In the other direction, behind my position is a lighthouse, also tempting, but this is the shot I wanted.

But I can't seem to find my way over
Wandering I am lost
As I travel along the white cliffs of dover

Many rivers to cross
And it's only my will that keeps me alive
I've been licked, washed up for years
And I merely survive because of my pride"

Dan ~ I think almost everyone here enjoys seeing such a moody sky.

DWQ ~ It is one of my top 10 places to visit locally.

Hin Man ~ They are beautiful aren't they.

Dot ~ It's great isn't it, taking a virtual tour of the world, without leaving home! I love it.

Neva ~ Thx for stopping by. Have just called in at your place, you have some beautiful photo's, especially those wedding ones.

How did I miss you on the ABC Blogroll? lol... will add you to mine here.

Annie ~ Thank you. :o)

Max ~It seems strange to me that lots of people have commented on the cliffs, living so close I guess I take them for granted and forget that they are famous!!

Lynette ~ Thanks for stopping by, I have sneaked over to yours and see I need to add you to the ABC blogroll too!! Good stuff.

Michael ~ :oP right back at ya. You've been quiet lately Mr.

Peter ~ Glad you liked the first one, and I'll nip over to see where you moved to. Hope it went smoothly.

Paddy ~ Reading that quote in the written form shows it's deeper meaning. Glad you liked the photos

I nearly developed a squint looking for the bluebirds.

Is it just me or are your pics a damn sight more interesting than our comments?

Ali said...

Cherrie ~ Thx for popping by, I know how busy you are. Standing at the top of those cliffs, it was very tranquil. Nothing but fields behind me and I think I saw 2 people the whole time I was up there!

Cathy ~ Damn, I should have photoshopped some in!! lol

I take your last comment as a compliment, thank you. Glad you enjoyed them.

How did I miss these? I love the composition of the first one. It is a memory for me as we took a trip down there when I was a kid.

"There'll be blue birds over
The white cliffs of Dover,
Tomorrow, just you wait and see.

There'll be love and laughter
And peace ever after
Tomorrow, when the world is free.

The valley will bloom again"

DPF ~ It is a magnificent sight, and one which is dramatically altered by the prevailing weather conditions.

Congratulations on receiving the award by the way.
