Factoid Meme

I've been tagged by Evening with this Meme. I was initially thrilled, this is my first ever tag, but now I'm not sure what I am going to share with you, as I scratched long and hard to come up with my 100 things entry.

Rules:
1. We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.
2. Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
3. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose people to get tagged and list their names.
5. Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they're tagged, and to read your blog.

OK, here goes my factoids...

1. I love quizzes/tests/puzzles that require a logical approach to answer, but I am absolutely useless at general knowledge quizzes.

2. I always enjoyed school, always loved learning and I still do. I went to an all girls Grammar school, and loved almost every minute of it. The bits I disliked were the cruel an constant jibes of a small cell of girls who gave me a hard time continously because I worked so hard.

3. I was fiercely competetive in sports when I was at school and a member of the netball, tennis, rounders and hockey teams. I have since learnt to lose with dignity!

4. My last job was for a commercial vehicle hire company with a fleet of 200 vehicles ranging from vans to 38 ton units. I could recall the licence plate number, make, model, and body type of every vehicle on the fleet and tell you which customer had the vehicle on hire and when it was due back. Now my memory is shot to sh**

5. I was born in Lincolnshire, on an RAF Base where my father was stationed at the time but have lived in Kent since I was 4 years old.

6. I had my first child at the tender age of 17, and could never have coped without the support of my parents, they were just the best.

7. I love my garden and my greenhouse. Neglected due to other committments when I should have been seed sowing, I am now without my fresh salad & veg's, which I hate, but I have enjoyed my cherries, and the plums have just come into their own.

8. When we moved to our current house 4 years ago, we extended the driveway and block paved it. G laid all the sand, and I laid all the blocks in a herringbone pattern. I am a woman of many talents! ;p)

Right then, I tag:

Mike (coz I know how he loves these)
Laney (because she loves sharing about herself)
Denise (because she feels hurt if she misses out on a tag)
Paddy (because Paddy, I would love to know a little bit more about you)

You could remember the license number of 200 trucks? Ali, my dear, they make computers for that! I'd rather remember how to do 200 sex positions . . .

I am so envious of all you English people who are such avid gardeners! The only crop I grow here is grass, unless you count the weeds. Hardin went behind the shed in the backyard this weekend to take out some of our six-foot-tall weeds, and it wasn't pretty.

I hate it when high achievers are ridiculed by those who are not. Everyone should have respect for everyone else.

I would love to have sat next to you in class! I loved school too...but I was hopeless at sports (unless you can count trampolening).

Did I spell that right?

Thanks for the tag! This is going to be hard because I'm sure you all know everything there is to know already! :)

Cherrie ~ I'm not sure if my blog is the right place to openly admit you are growing grass AND weed!!!! (I bet that doesn't translate UK-US does it.. from where I'm sat it's funny!!!)

It is often the way with school age kids, the bad cell, of which there is always one in every year, always pick on those that get their heads in their books and perform well.

Laney ~ I'm sure if you dig really deep, you'll find a few more facts that haven't been made public yet!!

MY 8 RANDOM FACTS

1. My little finger on my left hand is bent.
This is a result of a fall in a netball match, teachers v. pupils, back in 1980.
It remained weak and lo and behold I dislocated it again about 8 years ago.
Quite simply it was knocked and jumped out of joint.
One day I will get it fixed, but know it will be painful!

2. My middle name is Elizabeth, after my nana who was Eizabeth Ellen, known as Dolly.
The family came over from Germany just at the beginning of the war.
Her father was a clockmaker. The name was Schumacer, so I may be related to Michael!

3. When I was 16 I worked as a nurse aid in a local hospital, now demolished.
I was based on the men's medical ward.
One job I had to do was to "prepare" the patients for surgery.
This meant shaving private areas with a razor!

4. I can play the spoons.
I find the older, soup spoons are the best.

5. I enjoy pease pudding .
I did not eat it for over 15 years following a school dinner episode when I was 7.
On a table of 6, I was the only one who liked it, so I swapped my dinner with the others on my table in return for their pease pudding.
I ate a whole plate full!
I wasn't very popular that afternoon!

6. I have evil thoughts about a former teacher, Mr. Pallister.
When I was 9 and not liking cheese pie or coconut pudding he made an example of me in front of the whole junior school, by forcing me to eat them both!
"People like me pay taxes so people like you can have free school meals!"
Were the kind words he said at the time.
Soon after my dinner I played skips and was sick.
I was so frightened I ran home to Auntie Dot.
I can picture her to this day, baking at the kitchen table.
She walked straight to the school, apron on, rolling pin in hand.
My family had a whip round and from then on I did not have a free school meal again, even though I was entitled to them.

7. I was banned from Weightwatchers in 1986.
I was in the meeting with my friend, we were chatting quietley. However the leader was not happy with this.
She turned and shouted "Would you like to share the secret of your success with the rest of the class Denise?" She bellowed!

"Before I came to Weightwatchers I would have a cooked breakfast, go to school and have tea and biscuits.
At playtime I would have more tea and biscuits.
Lunchtime I would have a school dinner.
Afternoon break, tea and biscuits.
Home for tea then out for a few drinks with friends, followed often by fish and chips.
Home for cocoa and a biscuit!"

I replied.

"And what now?"
She asked..

"I don't have a biscuit with my cocoa!"
Was my reply!

"Your attitude is not welcome here at Weightwatchers!"

Meanwhile she had been holding a bread roll up which she had poked her finger into...to show us how much starch was in the bun.

As we stood up my friend shouted..
"If you are going to abuse that roll I have it?"

We never went back, but I did loose 20lbs!

8. My favourite vegetable is sprouts.
I often eat a whole plate full.

Perhaps you won't mind if I say that I'm wondering if there is a connection between attending an all-girls school and having a first chid at 17.

Annie ~ I don't mind at all, it is interesting to see every angle of thought. In my own case, for reasons I choose not to share, there was no link. Having looked up a lot of my own year on friends reunited, it would appear that the majority of them only started their families in the last 10 years, we are all 40 now. It would be interesting to see some stats on the educational background of teenage mothers though.
